Project Deolmi

Overview

'Project Deolmi' draws inspiration from various forms of traditional Korean performing arts (Yeonhui),  intertwining them with myths and classics from diverse cultures. 〈Deolmi 2: The Light in the Darkness Guides Us〉  originated from 'Dasiraegi'  of Jindo Ssitgim-gut.  Performed during a funeral to honor the departed,  this comic play imagines a scene  where the deceased comes back to life,  prompting deep reflection on how we approach life and death. Project Deolmi juxtaposes  'Dasiraegi' with Shakespeare’s 〈King Lear〉.  Accepting one's own death is akin to stepping down from the throne on one's own accord. Through these two ancient tales,  we invite you to experience a mythical realm  where life and death, light and darkness, are no longer divided.
